I’m a better rapper than Olamide, Phyno, MI combined’ – CDQ

CDQ Claims He Is a Better Rapper Than Olamide, Phyno and MI Combined
Nigerian rapper Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf, popularly known as CDQ, has sparked controversy after claiming that he is a better rapper than Olamide, Phyno and MI Abaga combined.
CDQ made the bold claim during a recent episode of the Faloh Frequency podcast, where he discussed his rap abilities and how he measures himself against other Nigerian hip-hop acts.
The “Nowo Soke” rapper also mentioned fellow artist Blaqbonez while discussing the quality of Nigerian rappers, suggesting that Blaqbonez stands above many of his contemporaries despite ranking himself even higher.
“I am a better rapper than Blaqbonez, Phyno, Olamide and MI combined,” CDQ said.
Explaining his position, CDQ argued that popularity, commercial success or the size of an artist’s fan base should not necessarily determine who is considered a better rapper.
According to him, lyrical substance, quality and depth are more important measures of rap ability, and he believes his own pen game compares favourably with those of his colleagues.
“It’s not about who is popular. It’s about the substance and what you bring lyrically,” he said while making his point.
His comments have since generated mixed reactions online, particularly because Olamide, Phyno and MI Abaga are widely regarded as influential figures in Nigerian hip-hop.
Some social media users criticised CDQ for what they described as disrespect towards established veterans, while others viewed the statement as the rapper confidently expressing his opinion about his own abilities.
As the debate continues across social media, CDQ has not publicly retracted or clarified his claim. His statement has nevertheless reignited the familiar conversation about lyrical ability, commercial success and how Nigerian rappers should be ranked.
